The city released its Round 2 What We Heard report on the Official Community Plan update.
Round 2 drew 170 people to the Fernie Future Fest open house, 199 workbook responses, 14 one-on-one meetings with community partners and about 130 youth participants.
On infrastructure, the preferred split was 75 per cent of investment into existing operations and maintenance and 25 per cent into new growth areas, chosen by 104 respondents. On housing, 85 participants agreed that increasing housing options matters more than holding the status quo, against seven who disagreed. Sixty per cent of workbook respondents favoured an infill-first approach, meaning more housing inside existing neighbourhoods rather than expanding outward.
That feedback now goes into the draft plan, which returns for Round 3 engagement in early 2027.
