On Monday, May 11, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies announced four new Leitner Poma chairlifts across Fernie Alpine Resort, Kicking Horse and Kimberley, to be built across 2026 and 2027.
Fernie gets two of them. The Elk Quad is being replaced by the Elk Express, a high-speed detachable, for the 2026/27 winter. It cuts the ride to mid-mountain by close to half. After that comes the Cedar Bowl Express, a high-speed quad running from the bottom of Cedar Bowl up to near the Great Bear Express, set to open for 2027-28.
The resort currently runs ten lifts across more than 2,500 acres, with 142 named runs and five alpine bowls.
